What are five topics you can talk about, unprepared, for 30 minutes?
When I saw this question on Threads, I immediately thought that I would never talk about a topic without some kind of preparation.
For me, the question then became, “What are the five topics I feel I am prepared enough to talk about for 30 minutes? Topics that would be helpful to others?”
I’ve already talked about two topics:
Here’s the next of many topics I feel prepared enough to talk about for 30 minutes.
5. Integrating LEGO into my Creative Practice
I am a big fan of this simply but ingenius toy.
Lego has been the ultimate versatile and tactile tool for unleashing my full creative potential across various disciplines.
In fact I recently purchased the 805-piece Create Your Own Modern Art (31210) box of Lego. I haven’t constructed it yet.
I remember saving up my Christmas, my Birthday, and my Pocket money to buy tiny boxes of Lego bricks for most of my elementary school life. I couldn’t wait to get home to quickly build the simple car or boat or spaceship.
That feeling of success after successfully constructing something awesome out of a few little pieces is difficult to top. Everything went according to plan if you followed the instructions.
What was even better was when I took that simple something apart to construct something completely original. After following the instructions I was able to throw them away and construct new pieces without instructions.
My imagination and my patience and my creativity were challenged and engaged for hours on end because of those Lego bricks.
Playing with Lego bricks gave me confidence in my creativity.
I learned I was unique.
I believed in my quirky originality.
I can use Lego to do even more creatively. I can integrate Lego into my creative practice to:
Compose music. Lego bricks can represent different sound effects or elements or patterns or notes in a composition.
Choreograph dance. I can use minifigurines to organize shapes and patterns on a Lego stage. I can also use Lego to design dance sets and costumes and inspire new ideas.
Write scenes and plays. Lego bricks can be visual prompts. Lego characters can be arranged to inspire new storylines and unusual character development.
Make art. I’ve seen Lego bricks used in printmaking and in mixed-media artwork. I personally love doing abstract sculptural doodles to get into creative flow or to think through some creative challenges.
Write poetry. Sometimes these abstract constructed doodles resemble visual poetry. Adding a Lego minifigure adds another poetic layer to the narrative.
Well, that’s the end of my five topics I feel prepared enough to talk about for 30 minutes. These are five of many topics that I feel would be helpful to others.
How about you? Is there a helpful topic (or five) you’d be able to talk about?
