The Vicissitudes Dance
in the wildest of jiggles
like ill-fitting jigsaw puzzles
a tutu-wearing moon wears itself out
competing with the sun’s tap dance routine
twirls and pirouettes leave craters
spoiling her face with red flags
among peek-a-boo clouds
mountains gossip about valleys
a giggle of raindrops and a lullaby of thunder
recite rhythmic poetry from down under
a sudden punch line among the trees
gets a rise out of butterflies and bees
a saxophone of squirrels serenades the stars
in nonsense and a twitch of nuts
a whimsical prance on a branch
ends in a fish in a top hat
for the joke is not in the telling
but in the knot of the telling
Thank you to Tammy Evans for today’s prompt: VICISSITUDES.
