Green to Go
As the year begins and the blank slate of the year presents itself, let’s embrace the possibility (and the probability) of a positively fantastic year ahead of us.
Let’s discover and explore our hidden treasures, the secret valuables we didn’t even know were hidden within our imaginations.
We can refine the priceless things we find even more and then share them with others.
Thus begins the first Quintile of 2025.
I will focus on one big project for the first 73 days of 2025 as we move into the Year of the Wooden Snake.
UNFORGED
UNFORGED is my guiding word for 2025.
Unforged: genuine, original, authentic, sincere, not fake, not counterfeit.
I’ve also chosen a guiding word for each month of this Quintile (January to mid-March):
Begin.
Discover.
Refine.
Music.
Since my daughter’s started up with piano lessons, I’ve been inspired to play again. I started 30-minute piano lessons in high school when I was 16.
I’ve been doing scales and arpeggios to get my hands used to playing the piano. I love Chopin’s piano music and have decided to focus on his 24 Preludes for the Piano. Check out Yujia Wang playing through all 24 of them here in order. They evoke such intense emotions.
Reading.
I have a huge TBR (To Be Read) pile of books in my house. I aim to spend more time reading this year.
Here’s a list of ‘boy’ books I’ve finished reading over the last 2 weeks:
Bird Boy. (Elizabeth Starr Hill. 2003. 64 pages.)
Lawn Boy. (Gary Paulsen. 2009. 96 pages.)
The Whipping Boy. (A Newbery Medal-winning children's book by Sid Fleishman. 1986. 89 pages.)
My next book is Lion Boy (Zizou Corder is the shared pen-name of Louise Young and her daughter. 2003. 304 pages). It is the first book of a fantasy trilogy.
